Even as the Indian Republic enters the 58th year, the nation faces threats as never before.
The Constitution which we gave it to ourselves has been maligned repeatedly by politicians, who wanted to give it to themselves rather than to the nation. The public have had to resort to invoking the Judiciary to try and erase the malice being foisted on the nation by self serving politicians.
On the international scene politics has acquired demonic colours, thanks to super powers who would want to rule the world and make the United Nations as their medium.
If the Cold War of yonder years were over, a new tussle for global power has emerged.
As a citizen, I am worried for the first time. GDP could be growing by 8%, but growth where politicians are in a hurry to give a short shrift to democratic process and have least concern for the poor and downtrodden is not something many Indians can rejoice.
So this R-Day makes me rather sad and worried.
